Lighten Up Toots

I know I know, where have you been girl!

You've been leaving us hanging! Said no one, lol

I've been working and not blogging about it, how dare I!

So for the last few months I've been making subtle changes to my entryway. First, with the console table, then the closet remodel, and now with the feature wall addition. This space is getting worked on little by little and it's making such a huge difference. So this current feature wall project is going to take place in three phases. Currently, I have officially finished Phase 1 which was the box molding and wall sconces.

Coming up with the plan for my feature wall definitely took a while because no offense I just didn't want to do what everyone else is doing. The picture boxes, wooden slats, and board and batten are pretty done to death and a common feature these days. And sure some might not like the design I've chosen and you're are indeed entitled to that. My inspiration came from my cloffice where I added a chevron feature wall that I was and still am enamored with. I decided to do that and simple box framing with wall sconces to spice things up here.

I decided on three stacked box frames with two inch spacing between each one. I have standard sized ceilings so this gave the illusion of something more grandiose. To complete this space I decided to add a wall sconce to add a little flair and in my opinion a little sex appeal. I found a sconce but just at price tag a little beyond me. And in today's current financial situation I'm trying to keep these projects cost efficient. So based on the overall look and function of this light I saw it as something that I could dupe for a much cheaper cost. I was able to purchase the materials for the box moulding and wall sconce for around $100.

Box moulding:

16 - 1"x2"x96" furring strips from Home Depot

45 degree miter cuts and secured them to the wall with 2" brad nails

2" spacer

Caulk

Wood filler

Dimensions - Box 1:27"x94" Box 2: 19.5"x85.5" Box 3: 12.5"x76.25"

Wall Sconce: Dimensions - 4.5"x33"

4 - 1/2"x2"x48" Poplar Boards from Home Depot

2 COB LED strips (battery and remote operated)

Mounted to the wall with a modified French cleat

The mounting box is made from scrap pieces of wood from the poplar board and other pieces leftover from other projects; Dimensions:5.75"x7.5"

9 - 3/16" wood round dowels

Caulk

Wood filler

I secured the pieces together using 1 1/2" brad nails and wood glue to secure the boards. The LED lights that I chose are different from traditional LED strips because it gives a solid light effect opposed to the beaded light effect you normally see with LED light strips. It also comes with a remote and 8 light settings. I stored the battery pack in the mounting box that I built and trimmed the lights out with 3/16 raw wood round dowels from Home Depot secured with wood glue and clamps. I also used caulk to fill the seams and close any gaps. Lastly, I used Behr Spraypaint in matte black and it turned out absolutely beautiful!

Once the walls are painted the light will be ready to be mounted on the wall. This post to be updated once that happens!

New Handy Homegirl HQ

Hey Frens I’m back again with a new project of course. This time it’s all things home office. If you remember like many others I transitioned to telework status during Covid. So I created a workspace
