Sweet Relief

If you’re anything like me you appreciate the things you shouldn’t be having! I indulged my sweet cravings with a twist on an always classic treat…cinnamon rolls, but with strawberry crunch. YUM!

I’m still working on perfecting this recipe because it was my first time using strawberry extract. I learned that it’s taste is subtle so I’ll need to be a little more generous with it on my next time around.

Cinnamon Roll Recipe

2 1/4 tsp Active Yeast

3/4 Cup warm milk ( heat in microwave for 45 sec)

1/4 Cup Sugar

1 egg and 1 egg Yolk

1/3 cup Melted Butter

3/4 tsp salt

3 Cup All Purpose Flour

Pour warm milk and sprinkle yeast on top. Pour in sugar, egg, egg yolk, and melted butter. Mix with a mixer until combined. Next Fold in your Flour until a dough forms. Kneed dough on medium for 8 min. (You can also do this by hand if you do not have a mixer). Put dough in a lightly oiled bowl and cover with plastic wrap and a warm towel for 1 1/2 hours.

Make your filling.

Dried Strawberries in food processor

Softened butter

Sugar

When dough is done rising use a roller pin and roll out your dough into a rectangular shape. Add your filling into dough and roll your dough tightly. Cut Dough into 1- 1 1/2 inch rolls and place into greased/butter baking pan. Proof for 30 minutes.

Bake on 350 degrees for 10 -15 min.

Crumb Topping - In a small bowl or the food processor, add the Golden Oreo cookies and pulse into large crumbs. Add the softened butter and mix gently with a fork or your hands to make pea-sized pieces stick together. Scoop out 2 tablespoons of the mixture into a small bowl and set aside.

Pour strawberry jello powder over the remaining crumbs and continue pinching the pieces together. Add more softened butter if needed for mixture to stick.

Cream Cheese Glaze - In a small bowl mix 1 8 oz package of cream cheese softened, 1/2 stick of unsalted butter softened, 1 cup of powdered sugar, 1 teaspoon of vanilla, add in milk slowly til smooth, pinch of salt Add to cinnamon rolls while still warm, sprinkle crumble on top, enjoy!
