"I never eat French toast because I hate the eggy kind, but this is the best French toast I have ever had!" - Brandi L. s
This recipe came about from experimentation. While in the military I worked at the base dining facility and from time to time I would throw together little treats here and there. This was one of those tinkering treats and boy did it stick. Sure it's not the most healthy of breakfast choices but baby it's good! Let's get started.
Fab French Toast
Ingredients
This is the base needed but the batter can be flavored to your liking.
1 loaf of Texas Toast bread
Instant Pancake Mix (follow box directions)
1/4 cup sugar
1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
1 tablespoon of cinnamon
Cooking oil
Directions
Directions should always be short and to the point.
Heat cooking oil in a pan, depending on the size of the pan the oil should not exceed 1/4" depth -- maintain temperature on medium heat (test by dropping batter in pan) should float to the top quickly -- can also be cooked in a deep fryer, if available.
Toast bread in oven for 10 minutes at 375 degrees or until browned
Dip toasted bread in batter, remove excess
Fry in cooking oil until brown and flip
Remove from oil (repeat for needed serving size)
Rest on paper towels to absorb excess oil
Serve with syrup, fruit, glaze, powdered sugar or nut topping. Pairs great with a side of eggs and breakfast sausage/bacon.
